odometer pictures/biking/sonic youth/fake lou reed
got my ibook back from apple. $160 applecare
on ebay was the deal.
---
cops are cracking down on delivery guys who ride their little bikes
on the sidewalk. it takes 3 officers to give one ticket to a person
that odes really seem to care.
---
Williamsburg - havemeyer st. 75 cent fresh ginger tea. domenican mami
tells me how to do it at home. fresh ginger. grate it and boil it for
15 minutes. --- while PT messengering I see Mariah Carey's fans camping
out in the morning outside the new Best Buy in Noho waiting to see her
in the evening. 11am the line stretches already almost from houston
to bleecker.
---
upper east side. by the vatican state diplomatic mission. the flag is
half mast and it looks like everything is locked.
---
I gotta pick up photographer Dah Len's portfolio in the meat packing
district and drop it off in east midtown. cant believe how big and heavy
it is. if i had a rack it wouldnt fit on it. I wish I had a mule or
a camel instead of a bike.
---
So many people seem to drink in phone booths... do they need a drink
so bad? public outdoor areas for drinkers would be a good idea. do it
in the open - no need to be sneaky. I miss how people sit and drink
a bottle of carlsberg in the sun in the stoops of copenhagen. leave
the empty bottle there and some old person would pick it up for recycling.
enjoy the sun and the spring - no need to get too drunk just tanned
and mellow at the same time. ---
1000s of trees cut to make useless can-size paperbags. just waste.
---
Upscale buildings messenger centers that look like dumpsters. fancy
w26/11av new renovated office building. messenger center guy must escort
messengers upstairs. "those little fashion bitches get scared if they
see a messenger coming to their office" he says loud.
---
lower manhattan law office. lawyer cant believe how fast I got there
after he placed the call for the pick up. he is a fellow biker and gives
me his card. if i ever have an accident I should call him he tells me
with a grin. he also gives me one of those bike bottles and some free
legal advice if i ever get doored by a yellow cab. Chelsea or Flatiron.
doorman from Guyana listening to some very old school mellow reggae.
I asked him "what tape are you listening to?" he shows it to me "TIME
TO HAVE SEX" funny that I have to go up to "Girlie Action" and pick
up a package.
---
it is the punishment ride. 5.15 pm soho i think it is almost over. I
get all these pick up drop off soho to: broadway and duane / 60 centre
wall street / ridge street / houston and chrystie / 19 and 6 av / 31
and 11 av / 34 and 9 av / 43 and 6th av / 46 and fifth av / ridge street.
at the end of the day. traffic - midtown - the elevators get slow filled
with commuters looking forward to jump on their trains and buses'
---
in the street truck with sign on the side. how could they misspell "BROADWAY"???
"Jesus bus" from the midwest can't seem to make a turn from broadway
on 20-something. I can go from wall street to the end ow east end avenue
east or west, . By Port Authority 99 cent pizza is actually quite good.
way better than Roma Pizza on Delancey and Essex [the worst slice I
EVER had]
---
Guy selling books by NYPL on 40th and fifth. I buy a Gore Vidal paperback
"I am Myra Breckinridge whom no man will ever possess" the first lines
hook me up, and it is just a buck. I saw Gore Vidal so many times in
talk shows on Italian TV when he used to live there. I take a couple
of photos of the bookseller and he asks me to email them to his girlfriend
in Russia.
---
jutta koether retrospective in a gallery in chelsea. super rainy day
- i get the F train - run into Lizzie Boug at the east broadway stop
- we just live a few blocks apart. rainy art opening - still crowded.
I like the red paintings and the girls with the grey eyes and beaming
rays.
---
On Sunday - ride to Astoria to see sonic youth and take photos for some
boxer girl - craigslist gig. I want to go to a Bosnian restaurant -
but I end up in a mexican grocery - a real authentic one. order a cactus/steak
burrito to go and a bottle of sidral. a really amazing burrito. just
3 bucks. too bad astoria is not just around the corner.
---
the club where sonic youth play is really strange. looks like some east
european disco. you have to go thru these huge security guys with metal
detector and get on a elevator 4 / 5 at the time. there is a line around
the block. ran into thurston - at the right moment. lock the bike and
skip the hourlong line. it feels like being in a different city. the
club is packed i go up - and i enjoy the tony oursler projections on
the stage. slow motion waves - slow motion crowds.
---
next day meeting with phaedra - an art curator that wants to organize
a couple o shows of my pictures - different places, we end up telling
life stories. we never met - but somehow there are many crossing paths.
she wants to do a show in a small gallery with my bike messengers' pictures,
and something else elsewhere. - at the end of a biking day - it is hard
to go home. if i take a bath or a shower- then i just feel sleepy -
hard to edit - organize. should I stay grimy and dirty and have some
happy hour social time/? but now i wake at 7 am - so after all it is
not bad. and well maybe it is better than the cheap mixed drinks social
life. ---
sonic youth are playing at the maritime hotel. in the new venue at the
basement. just an amazing place to play a show. really good show. and
Cops are such a fun opening band Peter Nolan doing a spoken word of
fake Lou Reed
---
